The European Commission published a new online guide highlighting the wide range of funding programmes for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the tourism sector. The funding programmes are financed by the Multiannual Financial Framework 2021-2027 and Next Generation EU.

The Intelligent Cities Challenge (ICC) welcomes the guide as it is particularly relevant for cities focusing on the ICC thematic track of a green and digital transition in tourism. The pandemic has had a significant impact on the tourism sector and its financial strength. So, finding the right funding opportunities is crucial to revive and reform the sector. With these new funding possibilities, the tourism sector can bounce back more resilient than ever before.

The guide focuses on the practical issues related to the most important EU funding programmes for the tourism sector.  In addition to a step-by-step plan for finding these relevant programmes, the guide provides a clear and concise overview of all available funding options. By using the guide’s search engine, cities can identify the programmes relevant to their city and businesses. The guide also includes concrete examples of projects funded under previous EU programmes that can offer a source of inspiration for new projects.
