Osijek is the largest city in the eastern Croatian region of Slavonia. With a population of 103,000, it enjoys the status of the region’s economic and cultural centre. Osijek also further serves as the administrative centre of Osijek-Baranja County. With 17 parks spanning over 394,000m², Osijek is the greenest city in Croatia. The city was also selected to become the first Croatian city to have 5G coverage.

Having adopted an innovation strategy to compete for the title of European Capital of Culture 2020, Osijek expects to continue benefiting culturally, socially and economically from these efforts. One of the programme’s actions is to make a comprehensive critical evaluation of the city’s various dimensions - culture, society, science, environment and urban planning.

One of the city’s projects, Healthy Food Chain, promotes and combines self-sustainable developments in the agricultural and food industries, based on innovations and key technologies.

Osijek was a participant city in the DCC.
