Famous for its ground breaking inventions, creative community and innovative infrastructure, Mannheim is not called the “city of inventions" for nothing. The city is the cultural and economic centre of the Rhine-Neckar Metropolitan Region making it Germany's seventh-largest metropolitan region with nearly 2.4 million inhabitants and over 900,000 employees.

Mannheim is ready to achieve climate neutrality as early as 2030 under the EU Green Deal. As a pilot city for the Local Green Deal, the city relies on the key principles of the Blueprint for Action developed together with ICLEI in the framework of ICC, and thus on an integrated governance approach, partnerships and stakeholder involvement, and civic engagement. The city is committed to promote city diplomacy and raise awareness of concrete Local Green Deals as well as contributing to the ICC initiative to provide inspiration and innovative solutions to the participating core cities.
