Hamburg is a city located in the northern part of Germany. With 1.84 million inhabitants, it is the second largest city in Germany and the seventh largest in the EU.  Over the years, Hamburg has developed a strong digital entrepreneurship culture, demonstrated by the success of many Hamburg-born start-ups that became worldwide digital giants (e.g. Facelift and Xing).

Since 2000, city leaders have consolidated a vision to transform Hamburg into a laboratory of digital modernity. The “Digital City Strategy”, first presented in 2015 and updated in 2018, aims to improve the quality of life and economic attractiveness by adopting smart technologies and implementing numerous interdisciplinary pilot projects.

Hamburg aims to become a city of the future, starting with the implementation of digital traffic and mobility solutions and the digitalisation of its administration.

Hamburg was a mentor city in the DCC.
