Brno is located in the south of Czech Republic. The second largest city of the country and a key political and cultural centre, it is also one of the Czech Republic’s leading smart cities. In 2015, the Brno City Council established a commission dedicated to the development of the smart city concept.
For Brno, smart cities rely on smarter urban transport networks, modern water supply and waste management, or more efficient ways to illuminate and heat buildings. The city’s vision for its transformation also includes more interaction between citizens and local government, safer public spaces and adapting to the needs of its population.
The Commission drafted a strategy for a Smart City Brno 2050. It identifies 3 pillars: smart living for an improved quality of life, smart resources for a more sustainable city and smart governance for a better administration and improved services.
