Busto Arsizio, a city with a population of around 80,000 inhabitants, is situated in a strategic transportation hub that encompasses Malpensa Airport and various other facilities. Furthermore, it boasts a rich history in the textile industry, dating back to the early modern era. Over the past few decades, Busto Arsizio has undergone a significant economic transformation, transitioning from its predominantly agricultural roots to a thriving industrial centre, ultimately witnessing the expansion of its tertiary sector.

The city intends to invest primarily on green mobility, through the promotion of EU priorities in the field of sustainable mobility and local efforts to the decarbonisation of transport. It strongly needs support in harmonising ideas, strategies, and policies currently in discussion to reach the climate neutrality by 2030. While the city has not established a Local Green Deal, it has created intersectoral agreements with relevant stakeholders (trade associations, universities etc).

The city believes that ICC is an invaluable opportunity for the city to create a comprehensive strategy towards achieving climate neutrality, given ICC’s tools, methodologies, and international network of cities. The city firmly believes in the value of sharing experiences on a European level to leverage its local assets. The support of ICC will allow the city to boost innovation, enhance creativity and ideation, assist with capacity building, and improve connectivity between enterprises and universities.
